Basic Information
International Master Program Integrated Life Sciences (ILS)
The international master program in Integrated Life Sciences was jointly initiated by the Departments of Biology, Physics, and Mathematics at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) . With both theoretical and practical courses in modern techniques at the interface between biology and the neighboring life science disciplines, the program accounts for the rapidly developing research in molecular biology, biophysics, systems biology or synthetic biology. All of these modern fields necessitate the integration of techniques and methods from different disciplines at different length- and timescales, e.g. the function of single biomolecules may be studied using X-ray diffraction and computer simulations, novel high-resolution microscopy methods are used to follow individual molecules in cells, the wealth of data generated e.g. in modern genomics and metabolomics is processed developing modern computer codes. Research in Integrated Life Sciences at FAU covers fields ranging from single molecule analysis to intact cells and organisms to describe and design biological systems.
